Nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Bandar Dato Onn, Johor Bahru, Gallus - Johor Darul Ta'zim offers an inviting gateway to authentic Thai cuisine that promises to exhilarate your palate. This charming Thai restaurant expertly balances tradition with a modern touch, making it a standout dining destination for locals and visitors craving genuine Southeast Asian flavors.
As you step into Gallus, you’re welcomed by a clean and cozy ambiance complemented by attentive and swift service that sets the tone for a relaxed yet engaging meal. The menu showcases a thoughtfully curated selection of Thai classics, each dish brimming with vibrant, bold flavors that attest to the kitchen’s dedication to authenticity.
Among the crowd favorites, the prawn Tom Yum soup is a must-try, celebrated by guests for its perfect harmony of spicy, sour, and aromatic notes—the vitality of fresh prawns combined with just the right amount of heat awakens the senses beautifully. The Thai Basil Chicken, or Gai Pad Krapow, offers a distinctive sweetness paired with a savory depth that pleasantly surprises lovers of traditional spice blends.
The fried rice, praised repeatedly by patrons, is fluffy and fragrant without being oily, featuring crisp spring onion garnishes and a chili dip that provides a tantalizing kick. The texture contrast between the soft rice and crunchy toppings makes every bite truly satisfying. Complementing these savory delights are the irresistible shrimp cakes: golden, crispy exteriors give way to tender, flavorful interiors, harmonizing exquisitely with their zesty dipping sauce.
Dim sum enthusiasts will appreciate the inclusion of these bite-sized delights, which, while they crave a greater variety of dipping sauces, still impress with their quality and warmth. Vegetables stir-fried to perfection and the fresh steamed fish, lauded for its balance of sour, spicy, and savory flavors, round out a meal that celebrates the depth and diversity of Thai cuisine.
To refresh your palate, the iced green tea emerges as the perfect companion—a cool, lightly sweetened brew that cleanses the taste buds and complements the richness of the dishes beautifully. And don’t forget to indulge in dessert: the shaved ice topped with colorful, light ingredients offers a refreshing, playful finish that lifts your spirits after a flavorful feast.
Gallus is more than just a restaurant; it feels like a small culinary journey through Thailand, brought alive by genuine flavors and heartfelt service. Whether you’re stopping by for a comforting bowl of tom yum, a quick lunch of fried rice, or a leisurely dinner to explore their wider menu, Gallus promises a satisfying and authentic Thai dining experience that leaves a lasting impression.

Tried this place and loved it! The fried rice was flavorful, not too oily, and came with just the right amount of seasoning. The shrimp cakes were crispy on the outside, soft inside, and paired really well with the dipping sauce. The iced green tea was refreshing and not overly sweet, a perfect balance. For dessert, I had the shaved ice with colorful toppings – light, refreshing, and the perfect way to end the meal. Portion sizes were generous and presentation was neat. Overall, great food, friendly service, and a cozy spot to enjoy authentic flavors. Definitely recommend coming here!

Good flavours. Small portions though. If you a big eater, might have to order double portions. The seafood Tom yum only had ennoki mushrooms and 4 large and fresh prawns, no sotong or other seafood but it was good, hit the right spot. The basil chicken was ok, kangkong belacan and steamed fish were superb. The steam fish was fresh and had all the right notes, sour, spicy and flavourful. We also had some dim sum and they were ok. Service was a little slow and it was not even crowded yet.

It was my first time visiting here. I went on Monday after work, and it wasn’t too busy. I just wanted to try the dim sum as it’s on the menu. Overall, it was okay, but I do hope they can provide more variety of dipping sauces instead of just the regular chili sauce. The environment and staff were fine. I’ll come again to try other dishes.

The fried rice was fragrant, fluffy, and not oily. The addition of chopped spring onions and crispy garnish on top gave it a nice texture. The chili dip on the side added a punchy, tangy-spicy kick that complemented the rice well. Pairs nicely with the stir-fried vegetables.

I think our last visit to Aeon Dato Onn was more than a year ago and this place looks new. Gallus caught our attention with its thai cuisine menu and Hainanese Chicken hanging by the window. The tomyum soup has a good kick and the pad thai has wok hei. Dim sum is surprisingly good. The thai fish cake can be better. Their version of gai pad krapow is a sweet dark version which I can take with a fragrant iced lemon tea to wash it down. Not bad I'd say. Most diners order their pad thai, steamed fish while I was hoping to see a plate of chicken rice. It was when we were leaving that a takeaway order was made. We will probably try their chicken rice next time we dine here.
